BUT HOW DO WE MAINTAIN PUBLIC SAFETY?

 I work to maintain the public safety of our towns by:

  • focusing judicial resources on crimes of violence and felony level offenses;

  • diverting low level offenses to services and alternative programming options;

  • working with the Center for Restorative Justice to increase positive outcomes, decrease recidivism and ensure victim reparations;

  • aggressively prosecuting drug traffickers to decrease drug availability in our county;

  • working to help Vermonters that struggle with addiction to access treatment;

  • recommending incarceration for only those serious offenders that have been resistant to community supervision or rehabilitation;

  • seeking accountability on behalf of victims and the community; protecting children that have been neglected or abused in our community while continuing to work in a family-centered model;

  • directing offenders with mental illness or substance abuse disorder to services rather than jail;

  • recognizing that poverty is a pervasive factor in criminal behavior

  • collaboration with the many community partners that play a role in the community and the criminal justice system
